Following the sale of all GameStop stores in Italy to Cidiverte (GameLife), the fate of the German GameStop stores has apparently been decided. According to unconfirmed reports, all GameStop stores in Germany will close at the beginning of January.

The news is currently spreading like wildfire across the internet: GameSpot is to close all of its remaining (69) stores in Germany at the end of January 2025, according to posts on Reddit and related media reports. A person, who was a store manager for three years, wrote that the closure was announced by phone. It is further reported that no potential buyer or investor could be found for the German stores. This information has not yet been officially confirmed. GamesMarkt has contacted both GameStop Germany and GameStop US for comment, but has not yet received a response. The topic could be addressed at the latest on 10 December when the results for the third quarter of the financial year are announced.

However, the closure of all stores in Germany would not come as a surprise, especially as GameStop has been closing stores in recent years. Notably, all GameStop stores in Italy were sold to Cidiverte S.p.A. just a few days ago (source: iGizmo.it). Cidiverte, which exclusively distributes Take-Two Interactive titles in the Italian market, also owns the GameLife video game store chain.
