In the German Federal state of Bavaria, a specifically developed learning app for children called “Wo ist Goldi?” (Where is Goldi?) has been authorised for usage in schools since August 2023 (Article in German). The app was developed by Wegesrand. in association with the Digital Ministry of Bavaria and sensitises children from the age of eight to the safe use of digital media on the Internet. It has been honoured, among other things, with an award from the Serious Play Conference in 2022 (Article in German).
Up until now, Wo ist Goldi? has only been available for tablets and smartphones. Now, the learning app can also be used on Windows computers. All current versions can be downloaded through the website of the Digital Ministry of Bavaria.
Minister of Culture Anna Stolz: "We experience it every day: digitalisation is advancing inexorably and shaping many areas of our lives. In addition to analogue education, we therefore attach great importance at Bavarian schools to encouraging our children and young people to use digital media competently from an early age. This is the only way they can be successful in a modern world! Our teachers make a significant contribution to this with innovative teaching methods. Through their commitment, they prepare our pupils perfectly for the opportunities and challenges of the digital future."
Digital Minister Dr Fabian Mehring: “Media literacy is the key skill of the 21st century. Making people in our home country fit for the digital age is therefore a matter close to my ministry's heart - especially with regard to children and young people, who are particularly at risk online. That's why we are now giving even more kids in Bavaria the opportunity to arm themselves against online dangers in a fun way. We are ensuring that young people in Bavaria learn how to surf the net safely so that they know how to utilise the opportunities of the internet and are aware of its risks. Because one thing is clear: today's pupils live and work in the digital world of tomorrow. That's why we need to give them all the skills they need to cope in the age of AI.”
