Figuya X Konsolenkost Retail Continues to Expand
Following the successful launches in Augsburg and Magdeburg, the third Figuya X Konsolenkost retail store is set to open in Braunschweig this week. Plans are in place for two more stores in Leipzig and Neubrandenburg.
Figuya X Konsolenkost Retail GmbH is continuing to grow. After launching in Augsburg in May, the second branch opened in Magdeburg on 28 June, attracting large crowds and receiving positive feedback. "We are overwhelmed by the response. It was deeply moving to see so many people gathering outside the shop before it even opened," said Sebastian Kost, Co-founder and Managing Director. "Magdeburg has shown us how strong the desire is for real places - places where you can explore, exchange ideas, marvel and interact. That’s exactly the nerve we want to strike."
The third branch will open in Braunschweig on 26 July, once again in a former GameStop space. There are two more openings planned: one in Leipzig's main railway station (following renovation) and one in Neubrandenburg, where there will be a strong focus on community building. "We choose our locations carefully. It's not just about expansion for us; we want to create places that offer real added value," says Dr Jessica Janus, Co-founder and Managing Director. "Our stores are intended to be small cultural meeting places with soul."
Sven Hempel, who worked at GameStop for 18 years, is now part of the team. "I've seen the industry change first-hand, and I believe that what Figuya x Konsolenkost is doing here is the best response to the challenges faced by physical retail," says Hempel. He will be taking over the upcoming store at Leipzig main station and is looking forward to the new start: "It feels good to build something new that really understands the spirit of the scene."

The store concept brings together retro and modern gaming hardware, anime figures, trading cards, and Japanese pop culture. "We see fans from different subcultures coming together - the young and the old, anime and Mario. It's wonderful to see," explains Dr Jessica Janus. "For many customers, it's more than just shopping - it's a piece of home, a reunion with their childhood, and a place where they can explore new interests."
The purchase of old games, consoles and accessories is particularly popular. "There's nothing better than when someone sells an old game that's been gathering dust in their basement for years, and leaves the shop with a new favourite item and a sparkle in their eye. That's exactly why we do it," says Kost. "We don't just want to sell; we want to create memories." Alongside commercial success, one thing is central to the founding duo: fostering a sense of belonging. "Our customers tell us stories about their first console, the figures they've collected and game nights with their siblings. These emotions define our brand," says Sebastian Kost. "If we can give them a piece of their childhood back, or simply provide a place where they can make new friends, then it will have been all worth it."
