"A Game About Digging a Hole" Tops One Million Sales
DoubleBee and rokaplay's "A Game About Digging A Hole," which went viral on social media after its release, has sold over a million copies since February 2025. "We're still a bit speechless," says the publisher.
This is a huge success for DoubleBee (formerly Cyberwave) and rokaplay (Bou·tique). Released on 7 February 2025, A Game About Digging A Hole has sold over a million copies at €4.99 each. Just five days after its release, 220,000 copies had already been sold on Steam. The game was developed in just three to four weeks by 'Ben', one of the two developers of Solarpunk, which currently boasts over 850,000 wishlists on Steam, ranking it 28th in the top wishlisted games.
The game was announced at the German Indie Showcase in December 2024, generating 140,000 wishlist entries in just eight weeks before its release. It went viral on social media - for example, it received almost 17 million views on Instagram - and within the speedrunning community. rokaplay released the game under their "rokaplay bou·tique" label, where they plan to continue experimenting with high-potential games.
Adrian Kaiser, Head of Communication, rokaplay: "We're still a bit speechless. A Game About Digging A Hole started out as a 'fun little idea' and somehow turned into a genre of its own. Now there are dozens of 'Digging Hole' games out there. The fact that it's sold over a million copies is just crazy. We’re incredibly grateful for all the feedback from the community, and we're pretty sure there'll be more news about the game soon :D"
