The first warehouse is scheduled for completion in summer 2025. The online retailer Galaxus also wants to start recruiting for the new logistics centre, which will employ up to 1,000 people, at that time.

It is the largest commercial development in Neuenburg am Rhein since the 1960s, according to the mayor of the small town in Baden-Württemberg. But the construction of the second logistics centre in Germany is also a big step for the Swiss online retailer Galaxus. Ultimately, with around 90,000 square metres of storage space and up to 1,000 employees, it is set to be of a similar size to the company's largest logistics centre to date in its domestic market of Switzerland, where Galaxus is even ahead of Amazon in terms of market share.

However, it will take some time before the first goods are delivered from Neuenburg. The foundation stone has now been laid by Digitec Galaxus COO Michael Stolle and partners from Hansainvest Real Assets, DFI Real Estate and Goldbeck Südwest. According to the company, it is not only looking at the labour market in south-west Germany, but also at France. The French city of Mulhouse, with a population of 100,000, is only 20 minutes away.

It is this location that makes the site so interesting for Galaxus. The rapidly expanding company, which is also putting out feelers in other European countries, can also serve customers outside Germany from Neuenburg.

"Neuenburg is ideally located for us: from here, we can quickly deliver to Switzerland with our logistics partners, but also to Germany or France. The products Galaxus sells usually arrive via the ports of northern Europe. Neuenburg is on the way for these products travelling to Switzerland," said Stolle.
