Switch 2 Makes Its Debut in the German Sales Charts
In terms of games, June was another relatively quiet month this year. The first new entry made it to 10th place, and despite the new Nintendo console only just hitting the shelves, Mario Kart World became the first Switch 2 exclusive to make it into the Top 20.
June has brought another new number one to the German games charts. However, it is not a new game, but Star Wars Battlefront II, which has obviously received a sales boost from the finale of the second season of Andor. The previous frontrunner, Elden Ring Nightreign, fell back to third place, remaining ahead of other new releases such as F1 and long-running favourites such as GTA V.
The highest new entry was the PS5 exclusive Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which made it to number ten on the list. Seven places behind it, the new Mario Kart World made its debut, also a platform-exclusive game, but for the Switch 2. Normally, the launch of a Mario game outside the top ten would be a sensation in a negative sense, but in this case, it must be remembered that the new console was only launched in June and with limited quantities. The ranking is therefore likely to be less due to demand and more to the available supply of consoles.
The data is collected by Games Sales Data (GSD), a platform launched by Video Games Europe to measure physical and digital sales of computer and video games. The charts provide a unique and comprehensive overview of the most successful games in Germany in a given month. The charts are published monthly by game - the German Games Industry Association. Digital sales of Nintendo titles from the Nintendo eShop are not included.
