Rebellion's Sniper Elite franchise has more than 20 million players worldwide. And that number is set to grow substantially at the end of January 2025, when the next game in the series, Sniper Elite: Resistance, is released.

It's hard to believe, but the Sniper Elite franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Since its debut in 2005, the series - along with its Nazi Zombies Army spin-offs - has become the signature game of UK-based independent multimedia studio Rebellion. In total, over 20 million Sniper Elite games have been sold. Not bad for a niche shooter. As the title suggests, the game is a 3rd-person tactical stealth shooter set in the Second World War. The last instalment, Sniper Elite 5, was released in the summer of 2022 and took place in France. The new game, this time without a number in the title, is called Sniper Elite: Resistance and tells a story that runs parallel to the plot of the fifth game.

For the first time in the series, Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent Harry Hawker takes centre stage as he uncovers an insidious new Nazi wonder weapon far from the front lines, deep in the heart of occupied France. The campaign features missions with multiple kill list targets, optional objectives, and different infiltration and extraction points, giving players a choice of how to complete objectives and create their own playing style. The entire campaign can also be experienced in co-op mode. Propaganda Missions are a new type of side-mission in the campaign that puts players in the shoes of a French Resistance fighter. In these scenarios, players will sneak, snipe and take out enemies to complete time-sensitive objectives and help end the occupation.

And yes, the trademark X-Ray Kill Cam is back, revealing the destructive power of the impacting bullets - complete with blood and gore. The weapon arsenal includes returning favourites as well as a host of new WWII weapons. Players will also be able to tailor these weapons to suit their playing style. Workbenches are scattered throughout the campaign to customise and upgrade rifles, secondaries and pistols with new scopes, stocks, barrels, magazines and more - as well as the right type of ammunition. Last but not least, the Axis Invasion mode is back, allowing other players to invade a campaign as an Axis sniper. Speaking of multiplayer. There are also competitive 16-player battles to earn XP, medals and ribbons, and a co-operative Survival mode for up to four players.

Rebellion will launch Sniper Elite: Resistance on 30 January 2025. It is coming day one to Game Pass and will be available both digitally and physically (with the boxed edition published by Fireshine Games) on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Windows PC and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
