Patricia Vance, who has been the president of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) for nearly 24 years, will be retiring later this year.
Patricia E. Vance has been president of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) since November 2002. In this role, she oversees the teams responsible for assigning age ratings to video games and apps, enforcing marketing guidelines adopted by the video game industry, and operating the ESRB Privacy Certified programme. She also serves as the founding chairperson of the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC). Before joining the ESRB in 2002, she spent 18 years at Disney/ABC. Meanwhile, the ESRB is seeking its next president to lead the organisation.
Vance wrote on LinkedIn: "I have made the difficult and bittersweet decision to retire from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) later this year. Having spent nearly a half a century (gasp!) working full-time, I think it’s about time that I explore what life might look like with more freedom to pursue hobbies, travel, get more deeply involved in community work and other pursuits. It’s a scary step, but if not now, when?
