Bavaria Provides Additional €500.000 in Funding for Nine Game Projects
At a meeting on November 12, the FFF Bayern awarding committee approved funding of over €500,000 for nine game projects. This brings Bavaria's total funding for game projects this year to more than €3 million.
This was the third and final round of funding decisions in Bavaria for the year. The FFF Bayern committee, responsible for game funding, selected nine projects, which include five prototypes and four games still in the concept phase.
With this latest round of approvals, total funding for games in Bavaria for the year exceeds €3 million. Earlier in 2023, Bavaria funded 13 projects with €1.68 million in March and another 12 projects with €860,000 in July.
"Even in the final stretch of our Year of Games, Bavaria is firmly supporting its game developers, giving them a strong tailwind. Once again, we are backing creative game ideas and prototypes from across Bavaria in this third funding call," stated Bavaria's Digital Minister Dr. Fabian Mehring, who oversees the games funding budget. "With the ongoing disruptions in federal game funding, caused by the shutdown of the 'Ampel' program, Bavaria’s consistent support is vital. Game funding isn’t just a luxury in stable times — it’s innovative economic development and vital for securing our digital future."
In this funding round, several developers received financial support. Benjamin Lochmann New Media in Nuremberg and QM Interactive in Munich were awarded €30,000 each for their projects One Upon the Pinces (working title) and Lighthouse Lost, respectively. Solo developers Filippo Beck Peccoz from Munich and Matthias Huber from Neustadt Donau received €20,000 each for their concepts, Imprinted and Atomic Age.
In the prototype funding category, NightinGames from Bayreuth received €50,086 for Loxia - Herbs & Potions, Wanderstar from Augsburg received €80,000 for Lightkeeper, Leyline Creations from Munich received €80,000 for Homunkulus (working title), and Deficit Games from Wiesentheid received €90,000 for Full Suspension. The largest single award in this round went to Zinoa Entertainment, a new studio in Irschenberg, which received €100,000 for Project S.M.PC.U. (Special Monster Pest Control Unit).
