Roblox has set 30 April as the launch date. Roblox Plus is set to be available worldwide and will cost US$4.99. It is not yet known whether the price will be adjusted for Europe or simply converted at the current exchange rate. Roblox Plus is set to offer subscribers both exclusive platform benefits and a discount on the purchase of items. According to Roblox, the company is funding the discount, so creators themselves need not fear any loss of income. The discount starts at 10% from the first day of the subscription and increases to 20% after three months. This is intended to reward long-term subscriptions.

It is interesting to note that the subscription also comes with numerous other advantages and opportunities. For instance, subscribers gain access to private servers, can transfer the in-game currency Robux free of charge, and can trade, resell and publish avatar items. Further features are set to be added in the coming months.

Although Roblox will still be available to use for free, there is a concern that the subscription will become mandatory for most users in order to use the platform to a reasonable extent.

However, the Roblox Plus subscription isn’t the only change shaking up the platform’s existing foundations. Roblox is introducing two new account types: Roblox Kids and Roblox Select. Roblox Kids is for children aged between 5 and 8, whilst Roblox Select is for children aged between 9 and 15. Different default settings apply depending on the age group, which parents can adjust. On Roblox Kids, for example, all communication tools are disabled by default.

The new accounts are part of Roblox’s efforts to make the platform safer, particularly for children and young people. There has been increasing criticism in this regard in recent years. This was partly because Roblox, which was once primarily popular with children and young people under the age of 14, has increasingly been appealing to an older audience. In particular, child protection advocates and family policy makers felt that the measures taken by Roblox to protect young users did not go far enough. Roblox, however, has been trying for years to improve the level of protection, for example through age-restricted filters in chat, parental controls and other measures.

In 2025, Roblox also decided to integrate the IARC system. The implementation of this fundamental change is still ongoing and will result in parents seeing familiar ratings such as USK, PEGI or ESRB. Roblox emphasised once again when announcing the children’s accounts that this is due to be implemented in the course of the year.
